Esporão Colheita Red

RED 2022 • REGIONAL ALENTEJANO

Produced solely from grapes grown at Herdade do Esporão under certified organic farming. A wine with a true sense of place: intense, direct, and vibrant. It expresses the vintage year’s character, the diversity of soils, and the identity of the selected grape varieties.

Harvest Year

The 2022 agricultural year was dry. During the vegetative rest period (autumn–winter) and spring, mild temperatures and low rainfall were recorded. Budbreak was early, as in the previous year, and moderate temperatures encouraged early vegetative development.
The very high summer temperatures and lack of water led to uneven ripening between varieties. This resulted in a precision harvest, with a special focus on the expression of each grape.

Viticulture

Certified organic vineyard.
Soil Type: Granite/schist origin, loamy-clay structure.
Average Vine Age: 15 years

Grape Varieties

Trincadeira, Alfrocheiro, Touriga Nacional, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Alicante Bouschet, and Tinta Miúda.

Vinification

Destemming, crushing, co-fermentation of the different varieties in stainless steel vats with controlled temperatures, followed by malolactic fermentation.

Ageing

Four months in concrete tanks, which provide unique micro-oxygenation conditions to preserve the wine’s character.

Colour

Clear appearance, concentrated ruby colour.

Aroma

Fresh red fruit, with floral and spice nuances.

Palate

Fresh and direct, with an elegant texture. Predominant notes of sour cherry and red fruits, supported by robust tannins. Fresh and elegant finish.
