Wine Concept

A classic wine obtained exclusively from our organic grapes. The diversity of Herdade do Esporão, together with the different characteristics of the grape varieties, soils, vine age and the dedication of those who craft this wine consistently over the years, results in a rich, intense and harmonious wine.

Harvest Year

The 2021 agricultural year was a rainy year. During dormancy (Autumn–Winter), precipitation values were higher than the 22-year average, with mild temperatures. These conditions ensured that, by spring, soil water reserves were fully replenished. Budbreak occurred earlier, and warm spring temperatures accelerated vegetative growth until flowering. A mild summer contributed to regular vine development, allowing balanced and consistent maturation.

Viticulture

Certified organic vineyards.

Soil Type

Granite / schist base, with loam-clay structure.
Vineyard age: 16–26 years

Grape Varieties

Antão Vaz, Arinto, Roupeiro

Vinification

Destemming, cold settling, skin maceration, pressing, must decantation, temperature-controlled fermentation: 75% in stainless steel tanks and 25% in new American and French oak barrels.

Maturation

Six months in stainless steel tanks and new oak barrels, with ageing on fine lees.

Colour

Crystal clear, light straw colour with green hues.

Aroma

Citrus and lemon dominate, with subtle notes of white flowers and tropical fruit.

Palate

Elegant and harmonious, with balanced fruit and spice. Intense and persistent finish.
